Summer

Coolness. That's what everyone may be seeking this summer. While we can't promise too much of that in a season that's starting off very warm indeed, it is true that the Garden's green lawns, water features, and tree-canopied paths will both look and feel cooler than downtown streets. While the Garden has its share of brightly colored flowers blooming sturdily through the most sunstruck days, there are also shady niches at every turn of the path revealing cool surprises: the fresh green of ferns against gray rocks or tall Joe Pye drooping languidly and gracefully over a still pool. Strollers can seek them out, or simply relax on a shaded bench and cast their eyes above the Garden treeline to the white cumulus clouds floating in a deep-blue sky: the cool essence of Summer despite the heat.
