Celebrating an Enduring Connection

June, 2022

In late June a commemorative event was held at the Garden for past Directors of District II (Southern Maryland) of the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland. The event had been postponed for some time, so the Friends were happy to finally offer recognition to not just one, but three past Directors: Ronda Goldman Thompson, Anna O'Kelly, and Liz Williams. During the afternoon the new Hop Hornbeam trees giving shade to the patio were dedicated in their honor and their names were added to a commemorative plaque which hangs in the lobby of the Tawes Building. The event concluded with a photo session and afternoon tea hosted by the District II leadership.

The Helen Avalynne Tawes Garden was founded in the early 1970's as a cooperative project between the Department of Natural Resources and District II of the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland. The District's member clubs have been steady--and greatly appreciated--supporters of the Garden since that time.
